The Greene County Christian Action Resource Center (ARC) food pantry is still able to serve needy households in the county, despite the challenges of a public health disaster.
Food pantry volunteer director Shirley Haupert told GreeneCountyNewsOnline the pantry is maintaining its regular Wednesday morning hours. The only difference is that clients will have car-side service rather than going into the building. Haupert reminds clients they still need to have a voucher from New Opportunities to receive food.
Haupert said that although people won’t be donating food items through their churches in the weeks ahead, as of now, the food pantry is still well stocked. She said generous cash donations in recent months have provided some cushion, and that the Food Bank of Iowa, a source of some of the food the ARC distributes, is still open.
Area residents who want to donate food items to the ARC can take them Wednesday morning and get the same car-side service as clients. Cash donations are most welcome, as the ARC pays only 17 cents a pound at the Food Bank of Iowa. Donations can be mailed to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center at 1006 N. Vine St, Jefferson, IA 50129.
